Ellie and Alex at Cider Mill Barn | A relaxed Warwickshire Wedding Venue

When couples start looking for a wedding venue, they often think about how they want the day to look. But usually, what they are really searching for is how they want the day to feel. They want somewhere their guests can relax. Somewhere the day flows naturally. Somewhere they can spend time with the people who matter most. That was exactly the feeling at Ellie and Alex’s incredible wedding at Cider Mill Barn.

Ellie and Alex are childhood sweethearts, and their wedding day had a lovely sense of familiarity and comfort. The focus wasn’t on creating a day that felt overly staged. It was about bringing everyone together, enjoying the surroundings and celebrating with the people closest to them. This was my first time photographing a wedding at Cider Mill Barn, and I quickly understood why couples are drawn to it. With its beautiful outdoor spaces, brilliant team and relaxed atmosphere, it has a way of making everyone feel at ease. It has the feeling of being somewhere a little different, almost like you’ve escaped abroad for the day, while still being right here in Warwickshire. And from a photography point of view, that creates the perfect environment for natural, authentic images.

A venue that allows the day to unfold naturally

One of the things that stood out about Ellie and Alex’s wedding was how much time they were able to spend actually enjoying their day. Cider Mill Barn has space on site for the bridal party to get ready, which was absolutely perfect. Having everyone in one location makes such a difference. It means the day feels connected, without the need to spend time travelling between different places.

It allowed Ellie and Alex to have those quieter moments together, while also being able to enjoy plenty of time with their guests. And those moments in between are often where the best photographs happen.

The moments you can’t plan

One of my favourite parts of the morning was Ellie’s reveal with her dad and brother. It was a simple moment, but one that carried a lot of emotion and joy. Those reactions can’t be recreated or staged. They happen because the people involved are genuinely experiencing the moment. These are the photographs that tell the story of a wedding day. Not just how everything looked, but how it felt.

An outdoor ceremony at Cider Mill Barn

Ellie and Alex chose Cider Mill Barn because they wanted an outdoor ceremony, and thankfully the day gave them exactly that. There is something special about getting married outside. It creates a more open and relaxed atmosphere and allows the surroundings to become part of the celebration rather than just a backdrop.

The outdoor ceremony space works beautifully for natural wedding photography because everything feels connected. Guests are involved, the surroundings become part of the story and there is a real sense of occasion without it feeling formal or restrictive. For couples who want a relaxed wedding day, it is a lovely setting.

Natural wedding photography at Cider Mill Barn

My approach to wedding photography is relaxed and natural. I don’t want couples to feel like they are spending their day being directed from one photograph to the next. The photographs should fit around the wedding, not the other way around.

Cider Mill Barn suits this approach perfectly. The outdoor spaces give plenty of opportunities for portraits without making them feel like a photoshoot. A short walk together, a few minutes away from the noise and some gentle guidance is usually all that’s needed. With Ellie and Alex, those photographs were simply an opportunity to slow down, enjoy a quiet moment together and take everything in.

No complicated posing.

No forced moments.

Just photographs that reflected who they are.

The moments after the ceremony

Some of my favourite wedding photographs happen once the formal parts of the day are finished. Guests enjoying drinks outside. Friends catching up in the sunshine. Everyone relaxing and settling into the celebration. At Cider Mill Barn, the layout naturally encourages this. People can move around, spend time together and enjoy the atmosphere without feeling rushed.

Later in the day, the golden hour light created some beautiful opportunities for couple’s portraits with Ellie and Alex. That softer evening light, combined with a couple who were completely comfortable together, created images that felt happy and genuine.
